The French start-up ecosystem has reached a high level of maturity, with 18,000 start-ups and scale-ups spread across the country and 450,000 jobs created.

However, acquisitions of French start-ups by French or European players remain rare. This situation limits investors’ ability to reinvest and facilitates the acquisition of strategic start-ups by non-European players. It thus poses a dual challenge, both economic and strategic, for France and Europe.

In light of this, Anne Le Hénanff, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Affairs, and the French Tech Mission are launching an unprecedented national consultation to identify the barriers to start-up acquisitions by French and European players.
