Launched in 2019 by Mission French Tech, the French Tech Next40/120 is a government-led program designed to support the 120 most promising French scale-ups with the potential to become global technology leaders.Each year, companies are selected according to transparent, objective criteria—half based on revenue performance and half on fundraising achievements. For a period of one year, they benefit from bespoke and collective support coordinated by Mission French Tech, with a particular focus on addressing their development challenges both in France and internationally.

The sixth cohort of the French Tech Next40/120 was officially announced on 5 June 2025.

Selection criteria

Selection is based on objective indicators aimed at assessing a company’s growth potential through two key measures: customer trust, as reflected in revenue growth, and investor trust, as demonstrated by fundraising results. Fundraising metrics are particularly significant for DeepTech companies, which typically require substantial capital to develop disruptive innovations and industrialize prior to market entry.

Next40, 40 best-performing start-ups

For the “sales growth” section, which assesses economic performance through customer confidence:

  • At least 100 million euros in net sales in the last financial year, and at least 15% annual growth over 3 years (20 places, awarded in descending order of sales).

For the “fundraising” section, which evaluates economic performance in terms of investor confidence:

  • Highest cumulative fundraising between January 2022 and April 2025 (20 places, awarded in descending order of amount).

French Tech 120, 80 high-potential start-ups

For the “sales growth” section:

  • At least 10 million euros in sales and 15% average annual growth over 3 years (40 places, awarded in descending order of sales).

For the “fundraising” section:

  • Have the highest cumulative fundraising figures between January 2022 and April 2025 (40 places, awarded in descending order of amount).

Commitments

  • On ecological transition, having performed a carbon audit between 2022 and 2025 that covers scopes 1, 2 and 3.

  • On gender parity: publication of their Egapro Index score on workplace gender equality. The score must be at least 75 or be accompanied by an action plan to reach this level (the higher the score, the more points awarded, up to a maximum of 100).

Service offer

Participation in the French Tech Next40/120 program grants access to a comprehensive range of services coordinated by Mission French Tech and its network of partners, designed to facilitate the growth and international development of laureate.

This includes support from a network of 60 French Tech Correspondents embedded within major government agencies and public services—including Bpifrance, Business France, URSSAF, DGFiP, Banque de France, INPI, AFNOR, UGAP—and entities promoting national sovereignty, such as Euronext.

At the local and international levels, companies also benefit from the network of 114 French Tech Capitals and Communities in France and across 52 countries. These structures bring together start-ups, investors, support organizations, public institutions, large companies, and research centers to promote innovation and foster the emergence and scaling of start-ups.

Within this framework, the French Tech Next40/120 program provides laureates with:

  • Tailored support and guidance from a dedicated start-up manager, addressing their strategic priorities throughout the year;

  • Assistance from public partners in France and abroad (ministries, public services, diplomatic networks) and access to the French Tech Correspondents for support in areas such as talent acquisition, intellectual property, compliance with standards, customs and taxation, international expansion, and access to public funding;

  • Enhanced visibility at major international events, opportunities within French Tech Capitals and Communities, and integration into France’s economic diplomacy initiatives;

  • Facilitated connections with major public and private sector stakeholders through the “Je choisis la French Tech” initiative;

  • Peer-to-peer learning opportunities and regular engagements with key decision-makers.
